About

Welcome to my relaxed hair journey.

First thing to note, I don't like considering it as a hair journey, but for the sake of this blog that's about what it is.

I'm about to take you back in time and then update you on the present. My natural hair is very thick, very African. Lol I'm not even kidding. As a child and teen I was really restricted in terms of hairstyles. I would mainly wear my hair in braids, canerows (or cornrows, as the Americans might say), and twists (in the Caribbean we call them corkscrews). My hair was so thick I had to wash it in its braided form. And dry it that way too! It would probably take all day to wash, and especially dry, if the braids were taken out. I got tired of the limitations and that pushed me to relax my hair. Actually, it was the day of my Confirmation at church and my hair was uncombed for weeks. I wanted to look really special and had limited time until the event so mummy was like 'to the hairdresser it is'! And I've been relaxed ever since. That was back in 2003. I'll probably post a pic on that.

So yeah, like everyone else, coming into this 'relaxed hair' life was much of a blur and I made loads of mistakes along the way. Like every possible wrong thing you can do with relaxed hair I probably checked off all. The worst was the time I decided to wet my hair before relaxing it....(leaves space for crickets to chirp). Haha! Yeah, so I been through it all. I honestly can't wait to share all my experiences along the way. However, I'm gona start with my hair presently, and probably share some flashbacks in between.

As you can probably tell, I've come a long way. On the plus side, I can finally say that I've found a collection of products that work beautifully for my hair. I've been using these products and the specific routine for about three (3) months now (since my last relaxer in May 2014), and I'm really impressed with the results. My hair has never felt softer, it's very moisturized, I do notice a lot less breakage, and other good stuff! So I'll be sharing that with you'll as well.

I hope I can enlighten some of you with my experiences/techniques/tips. Do enjoy, & Please subscribe.

P.S. I hafta say this now, I flatiron my hair once a week. I cannot go heatless! I'm not into that braidout and twistout life. I have to look presentable in public and those styles just don't work for me.

Lol, I'll most definitely write a post on that soon.

Xoxo, Shanz
